PCSD announces upcoming DUI checkpoint

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Pima County Sheriff's Department announced Wednesday it will conduct a DUI checkpoint on August 9 in its continued efforts to eliminate impaired driving in Pima County.

According to a report from the Pima County Sheriff's Department, nearly 30 people in theUnited States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaireddriver every day.

Approximately 10,200people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving accidents in 2010, which accounts for nearly one-third of all traffic-related fatalities in the U.S., or one death every 51 minutes.

Grants awarded by the Governor's Office of HighwaySafety have funded operational funding and equipment.
