TPD investigating possible hit and run on Benson Highway

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

An early morning accident on Benson Highway restricted westbound traffic to one lane, near Campbell.  

Tucson Police are reporting the accident as a possible hit and run, after receiving a call from a bystander who saw a man down on the side of the road.  Tucson Police arrived on the scene to find the man on the sidewalk. 

The man was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to TPD. In a recent update Tucson Police are reporting the man's injuries are potentially life-threatening.  Investigators have spent the morning gathering information from the scene, and waiting for the current status of the victim to determine the charges.

Drivers are advised to use caution when approaching the area, and if possible use an alternate route.  According to Tucson Police the lane that was blocked for the investigation should be reopened by 9 a.m.

Tucson Police are asking for the public's help with their investigation.  Anyone who could have seen the accident, which happened some time before 4:30 a.m., is asked to call Tucson Police.
