New building is the 'highest-priced student housing in Tucson'

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

When students return to The University of Arizona in less than two weeks, more of them than ever will be staying in off-campus student housing, but with a difference.

Privately-run student housing developments are popping all around the university.

They go way beyond the so-called mini dorms that midtown is used to.

As you drive by the UA on Speedway, you've likely seen a lot of construction going on as the new off-campus apartment buildings go up.

Private companies are building new apartment buildings right up against the UA campus.

About 3,000 new beds are being added this fall and next.

The UA has a limited number of residence halls. It prefers freshman stay on campus their first year.

After that, the university encourages students to find off-campus housing. It offers a free service and education on how to rent off-campus.

The UA Off-Campus Housing works with many complexes that offer a variety of prices.

The new apartments are pricier, but give students more choices than they've ever had.

The 600-bed Level apartment building on Tyndall, near Speedway, is 14 stories tall, and has pools on the roof.

It and The Cadence downtown will open next week, along with the UA residence halls.
