TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

An 18-year-old man who suffered head, shoulder and leg injuries hiking in Catalina State Park is recovering at a local hospital after an encounter with a mountain lion.

Arizona Game and Fish spokesman Mark Hart confirmed that there are signs that a mountain lion was following the hiker and his girlfriend, who were hiking on the Romero Canyon Trail.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department helicopter was used to lift the hiker out of the scene and delivered to a parking lot, where he was transferred to an ambulance.

The man is expected to survive.
