Sunnyside Little League Softball has become the first ever squad from the state of Arizona to win a World Series title.
Sunnyside beat McLean Virginia, a community that sits just 11 miles on the other side of the Potomac River from the White House, 9-0 to take the championship.
It was their fifth straight win after opening World Series play with a loss to Canada.
Alexis Anderson broke the game open with a two-run double that ignited a six-run fourth inning. Yanira Acuna, Arlett Arreola and Anacely Guiterrez added run scoring hits.
Jazmine Ayala went all the way in the circle and completely controlled Virginia allowing just two base hits.
Sunnyside finished 19-2 in post-season play.
