TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Happening today, a focus on the hundreds of billions of dollars exchanged between the U.S. and Mexico and the overall state of the border.

This analysis was presented in Washington D.C., Mexico City, and several border cities. Today it is here in Tucson.

The PhD who wrote the report and a panel of U of A experts will be talking about 'The State of Our Border.'   The report comes from the North American Research Partnership, it is a non-profit analyzing the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.  The message is that the border is about more than just security, which is important but it is also about commerce.

The group stated there was $536 billion exchanged between the U.S. and Mexico last year, also supporting six million jobs in America. The North American Research Partnership also recommends not putting more money toward border patrol, instead they say put more money on the ports of entry.

This report comes out as Congress debates its immigration overhaul.

The panel is happening at 11:30 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel on Alvernon south of Broadway.
