TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The most talked about team in Tucson right now has to be the Sunnyside softball team. Wednesday night the girls won the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, OR.

Thursday afternoon the champs arrived at Tucson International Airport. Trucks from the Tucson Fire Department and Tucson Airport Fire sprayed water over the plane as it taxied to the terminal.

The girls got off the plane and were met by members of the Sunnyside School District and local leaders. But it was at the baggage claim where a number of classmates, friends and family members waited. The Desert View and Sunnyside high school bands and cheerleaders were also on hand to welcome back the team.

As soon as the team got off the escalator the crowd went crazy. There were hugs and loud cheers.

Once the celebration ended at the airport, the team was led on a short parade to Mission Manor Park, the team's home field.

There was about a 45-minute ceremony that featured Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and other community leaders.
