Streetcar open house tonight for public opinion

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Happening today, the public can voice their opinion on the development along the modern streetcar line.

A month of Monday meetings continues tonight in the downtown area.  Tonight's meeting covers the central downtown segment of the modern streetcar route from the railroad tracks to the Tucson Convention Center area.

A big part of the discussion is how businesses along the rails will use the space, and how walking areas will look like once the streetcar is running.

Consultants have been holding meetings all month long, focusing on different sections along the modern streetcar route.

Organizers say the community has shown support in an increase of development along the streetcar route, as long as it is done right.

Most concerns from the community are with parking along the streetcar route, and how that would affect businesses especially around 4th Avenue and downtown.

A separate parking study is being conducted by Parkwise to address those concerns.

The next meeting is Monday night at 6 p.m., at the Public Works Building off Stone Avenue.  There will be one more meeting in August.
