(RNN) – Eight people were injured at Naval Weapons Station Earle near Middletown, NJ, after an explosion Tuesday morning.

Naval officials confirmed one person was seriously injured and seven others sustained minor injuries.

The explosion occurred inside a boat house around 9 a.m. while workers were performing maintenance.

"The damage from the explosion was contained within the boathouse area," the Navy's release said.

The workers' names have yet to be released.

"The situation is stabilized. We are investigating the accident," Navy spokesman Mike Brady told CNN.

Naval Weapons Station Earle provides ordnance for Atlantic Fleet Carrier and Expeditionary Strike Groups, and supports strategic Department of Defense ordnance requirements.
