Suspected heroin smuggler arrested at border

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a woman on Saturday after her failed attempt to smuggle nearly six pounds of heroin through the Port of Naco into the United States.

Maria Cecilia Ruiz-Garcia, 26, of Mexico, was referred for a secondary inspection. Authorities found more than $74,000 worth of heroin in a compartment of a roll-away backpack in her possession, according to a news release.

She was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
