TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Rural/Metro crews responded to a call of a pedestrian hit on Tucson's northeast side this morning.

RMFD crews from Station 72, near Houghton and Tanque Verde, arrived at the scene near mile post 4.5 to find a bicyclist had collided with a vehicle.

The rider was transported to University of Arizona Medical Center, according to Rural/Metro officials, for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation of the accident is currently underway, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Rural/Metro would like to remind drivers to give ‘right of way' to cyclist on roadways, especially in areas with a high volume of riders.  Cyclists are also reminded ‘to be aware of surroundings, and ride with the proper safety gear in place', according to Rural/Metro.  This includes a properly fitting helmet.  Riders should also let family members or friends know where they are riding and when they will return.
