Safety campaign for modern streetcar begins at U of A

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Now that the first vehicle in the modern streetcar fleet has shipped and the City is closer to the streetcar officially taking to the rails, many residents are starting to talk about safety.

Community safety around the streetcar is important, no matter how residents get around near the tracks, whether on foot, on a bike or in a car. Sun Link is beginning a safety campaign this week, concentrating for today on the U of A campus.

This week Sun Link will be sharing information during the Wildcat Welcome and a new PSA video will be played in the student union.  The PSA reminds the public about safety around the streetcar.

The message streetcar officials want to get across to residents is to constantly be aware of who and what is around them – when parking and opening the car door, remember to look behind them.  Pedestrians should show their intentions and pay attention when crossing the street; and cyclists need to remember to use hand signals when riding along the streetcar route.
