TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Thousands of drivers across Arizona can expect fewer obstructions along state highways this Labor Day weekend as the Arizona Department of Transportation has not scheduled any construction-related closures at that time.

Existing work zones will remain in place and drivers are asked to use caution in those areas, according to a news release.

ADOT reports the number of fatal crashes along state highways and local roads increased last year over Labor Day weekend.

Here's a listing of Labor Day weekend fatal crash figures in Arizona over the past five years:

2012: 17 fatalities, total of 14 fatal crashes

2011: 8 fatalities, total of 7 fatal crashes

2010: 11 fatalities, total of 9 fatal crashes

2009: 7 fatalities, total of 5 fatal crashes

2008: 19 fatalities, total of 14 fatal crashes
