TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Pima Community College is now able to send text message notifications to cell phones in the event of a threat on campus.

School security officials say the goal of the emergency alert system is to provide fast and accurate information during an emergency.

PCC Vice Chancellor, Bill Ward, says messages will be sent out in the event of a weather related issue, power outage, or even a violent threat.

To begin receiving messages from PCC, text the word ALERTS to 79516.
