Bowling for cause: send kids to school in Haiti

A local non-profit called Haiti Rebuild, Inc is raising funds to send children to school in Haiti this year.

Haiti doesn't have many public schools.

The vast majority of schools are private and cost the families money.

However, with limited job opportunities in Haiti, some families simply cannot afford to send all or any of their children to school each year.

That is where Haiti Rebuild comes in.

Haiti Rebuild focuses on helping families in Troumarot, which is on the southern coast of Haiti.

The group set a goal of sending 30 children from this area to school this year and they need $2100 total to do just that.

On Saturday from 4 to 6 PM, a $10 donation to this cause will get you 2 hours of bowling at Lucky Strike Bowl on Speedway, just east of Alvernon, in Midtown Tucson.

The yearly cost of the school is $70 for each student.

$24 of that goes to tuition with an additional $46 needed to cover the costs of uniforms and books.

Haiti Rebuild is also offering a sponsorship opportunity for people here in Tucson.

If a donation of $70 is made to sponsor a child, the contribute will receive a progress report at the end of the school year.

To sponsor a child make a donation via PayPal at or attend a fundraising bowling event at Lucky Strike Bowl on Speedway, just east of Alvernon.

Haiti Rebuild representatives will be on hand to process sponsorships.
