The first modern streetcar has finally arrived in Tucson.
Testing is expected to begin after the Labor Day weekend, but before it can start crews from both Sun Link and Oregon Iron Works will have to assemble parts of the streetcar that were removed for shipping. Then crews will start testing the various electrical and mechanical systems, like the brakes.
The plan is to test the streetcar on the tracks at night, during the second week of September. From there crews will begin testing the vehicle's speed.
How long this testing period will last really depends on how well each car's systems perform.
The second car is scheduled to arrive in October.
