A 16-year-old driver faces a misdemeanor charge following a collision that killed a motorcyclist in midtown on Sunday.
Tucson Police Department officers responded to the incident around 8:35 p.m. near S. Alvernon Way and E. Juarez Street and transported the motorcyclist, 63-year old John Howard, to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injures a few hours later.
Upon further investigation, officers determined the driver of a Pontiac Grand Am made a U-turn in front of the motorcyclist, who was heading southbound on Alvernon, when the incident occurred.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old female, was not injured. She was charged with one count of causing serious injury or death by a moving violation.
Witnesses said the motorcyclist was traveling at the marked speed limit, but was not wearing a helmet.
