Report: Avra Valley hot air balloon crash deemed pilot error

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Federal investigators say pilot error is to blame for a frightening hot air balloon crash north of Tucson.

Nine people were on board a balloon that hit power lines in Avra Valley in March of last year.

Two people were taken to the hospital.

The injuries were burns from balloon material that began to melt and fall on passengers below.

A final report from federal investigators finds that the pilot started letting hot air out of the balloon too soon while setting up for landing in a nearby field.
