District offering solution for student hunger problem

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Arizona has recently beencalled the worst state in the country when it comes to children going hungry;children who do not get enough to eat make for poor students.

One district in Tucson,JTED is hoping they have a way to help solve the problem.

There have been a numberof reports that rank Arizona low on the list in terms of poverty.  According to a report from 'Feeding America'Arizona tied for worst state nationwide for kids going hungry.

Last year, more than onein five households in the state reported not having enough money to buy thefood they needed for themselves or their family.

Hunger and lack ofnutrition lead to lower academic achievement, lower test scores and studentsmissing school days.  At the two JTEDcampuses, students will be offered free, healthy snacks every day.

JTED is the JointTechnical Education District, it offers specialized education to some highschool students.  The new program startsthis month.  The hope is that it has alasting effect for the students here.
