TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Sierra Vista man was arrested in possible connection to a report of child abuse to a baby under 2 years old.

The child's mother told detectives 34-year-old Jermaine Steward was taking care of the child when he called her to say he was upset about the child's condition. The mother checked in on the situation and discovered numerous bruises on the baby's body, according to a news release.

The child was transported to a hospital and then later taken to a Tucson hospital for additional treatment.

Police determined the child's injuries could not have been caused accidentally.

Steward was located on September 1 and is being held in the Cochise County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
