TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

One teenaged driver has passed away and his passenger was seriously hurt in an accident that has closed Twin Peaks Road at Interstate 10.

Northwest Fire District officials and Marana Police responded to the scene and discovered a yellow Camaro was heading eastbound on Twin Peaks when the vehicle somehow ended up in the westbound lane before crashing.

The 17-year-old driver and his 16-year-old passenger were taken to local hospitals following the incident around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the passenger suffered serious injuries but is expected to be OK.

The investigation was ongoing. The area is expected to be closed for the next few hours.
