Arizona Department of Transportation officials said an accident in the southbound lanes of Interstate 17 has forced a shutdown of the freeway north of Phoenix near the community of Anthem.
Daisy Mountain fire Captain Dan Jarrett said the five-vehicle accident produced 10 patients with varying degrees of injuries.
Jarrett said the two medical helicopters and five ground ambulances were used to take the patients to local hospitals.
Department of Public Safety officials had no estimate for the southbound lanes to reopen.
