Council to vote on Scottsdale public safety plan

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Scottsdale City Council is set to vote on a sweeping new public safety plan Tuesday.

In the wake of the murder of a bouncer at Martini Ranch in old town Scottsdale and other violence at bars and clubs, public officials crafted a strict ordinance that will affect the more than 100 bars, restaurants and nightclubs in the city.

The plan, which CBS 5 first reported in July (read here), would require certain establishments to file a public safety plan with the Scottsdale Police Department.

The proposal sets up a ratio for the number of security staff to the number of people in the establishment.

Business owners are likely to oppose the proposal because coming into compliance with the new proposal could raise their expenses.

If passed, business owners would have 90 days to come into compliance.
