CBP officers seize $300K from truck at AZ border

DOUGLAS, AZ (AP) -

Federal authorities say a Douglas man is in custody for allegedly trying to smuggle $300,000 in unreported cash across the southern Arizona border into Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say a truck driven by 35-year-old Jerry Joseph Del Rio was selected for further outbound inspection at the Douglas port.

CBP officers say they found seven packages of U.S. currency hidden inside a compartment in the truck's cab.

The truck and cash were processed for seizure and Del Rio was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

Authorities didn't immediately know Monday if Del Rio has an attorney for his case.
