9/11 Memorial Events happening across Southern Arizona



The Foster Grandparent Program, Senior Companion Program, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Tucson are coming to the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) Medical Center to work on a visual display placing 3,500 American Flags on the Sixth Avenue Gate fence area leading into the VA Medical Center.

Green Valley Fire Department to host - Honoring the Sacrifices of September 11, 2001 "Never Forget"

On September 11, starting at 6:30 a.m. at the Green Valley Fire District Frank Nugent Fire Station 151 (250 N. La Canada)  The public is invited to attend.

Schedule of events:

0630 – Assemble at Station 151West Pad

0635 – Presentation of the Colors – GVFD Honor Guard

0640 – Ringing of the Bells – Return to Quarters

0645 – Moment of Silence

0650 – Invocation – Chaplain Vernon Harms

0700– Remarks – Chief Simon Davis

0705 – Reading of the Names – Sahuarita Police Department; Pima County Sheriff's Office; Green Valley Fire District Fire Corps, Staff and Firefighters

0720 – God Bless America – Chief Katie Sayre

9/11 CELEBRITY STAIR CLIMB EVENT  - The stair climb will be held at the Bank of the West building, located at 5151 E. Broadway in Tucson. Starting at 8am, Celebrities will climb the 17 floors, 2 times in full gear to pay tribute to firefighters who died selflessly on 9/11, and every day, throughout our country. The celebrity climb is a mini version of the firefighter event held on September, 15th, 2013.

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE - 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony held at the base theater at 8:30 a.m. The guest speaker for the Remembrance Ceremony will be Col. Michael T. Rawls, 355th Fighter Wing vice commander.

Nogales - September 11th Memorial Ceremony at Nogales City Hall Park (in front of the Nogales Police Department)  to commemorate the 12th anniversary of 9/11.  The ceremony begins at 8 a.m.


SEPTEMBER 11 COMMEMORATION  – Tucson Fire Department is holding a short ceremony to remember those lost on September 11, 2001. The commemoration will consist of the following:

Beginning at 8:45 a.m. - lower the flag from full staff to half staff.

8:46 hours - Communications will sound a single tone, followed by a short message and moment of silence.  After the moment of silence, return the flag to full staff.

TFD personnel will stand at attention near their workplace's flag and park their apparatus in front of their firehouse.

FT. HUACHUCA PATRIOTS DAY REMEMBRANCE -  ceremony at 4 p.m. today on Brown Parade Field to remember and honor the victims, their loved ones and the heroes of 9/11, who acted during one of our country's darkest moments.  A wreath will be laid, after which the Fort Huachuca Select Honor Guard Salute Battery will render honors and Taps will be played. Retirement of the colors and retreat will take place at 4:30 p.m.

TEAM RED, WHITE AND BLUE - is holding a 9/11 Remembrance run at Reid Park beginning at 6 p.m.. Just north of the field at Randolph and 22nd St. Please feel free to bring family & friends. NORTHWEST FIRE DISTRICT - has recently completed a 9-11 memorial tribute to the World Trade Center and events surrounding September 11, 2001.

Two saguaros will forever serve as living memorials to the 343 firefighters that lost their lives on that faithful day.  NO official dedication ceremony will be held at the site, but every member of the fire service or public who visits the training center is encouraged to pass by the site and remember in their own way. 

The Northwest Fire Districts Training Center is located at  5125 West Camino De Fuego  (located off Star Commerace Way behind the Harley David Motorcycle dealership northwest of Ina and I-10)
