Phoenix firefighters had to sift through an apartment full of clutter to put out a bedroom fire early Thursday morning.
The fire started about 2 a.m. but was put out quickly once firefighters negotiated the clutter in the front of the apartment near 27th and Glendale avenues, said Phoenix Fire Capt. Josh Hart.
Hart said the fire was contained to the bedroom and damage was mostly to the apartment contents because of the single-story complex's block structure.
The lone occupant was able to get out unharmed, Hart said, and he told firefighters he tried to extinguish the fire himself.
Hart said it appeared that the back bedroom contained some sort of work bench and that whatever was burning had melted.
He said no smoke alarms were heard when firefighters arrived.
No other residents were impacted, Hart said.
Investigators had been called to determine the exact cause, Hart said.
