Record breaking monsoon for Bisbee-Douglas Airport

Posted: Updated:

Monsoon 2013 hit the Cochise County international border hard with frequent heavy downpours flooding washes and roads.

At the Bisbee-Douglas Airport 16.25" of rain fell since June 15th, the start of the monsoon.

Rain this week pushed the total above the record for the wettest monsoon at that location, which was 15.90".

That record was set in 1964 and the data dates back to 1948.

Below is a graph showing rain totals this year versus the average at locations here in Southeast Arizona.

If the blue column is higher than the green column, the rainfall is running higher than average.

However, rain totals can vary widely over a small area because the monsoon storms are spotty with generally small aerial coverage.
