(RNN) - After a slow start, the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season is ramping up.

Tropical depression 10, poised to become Ingrid if it grows into a full-fledged tropical storm, developed in the Gulf of Mexico Thursday, becoming the third tropical system currently active.

TD 10 sits in the southern Gulf and is forecast to bring lots of rain to Mexico.

The Mexican government issued a tropical storm warning from Coatzacoalcos to Barra de Nautla, meaning tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 36 hours.

Hurricane Humberto, the first hurricane of the season, formed just hours shy of setting a record for the latest forming hurricane in the Atlantic in a given year. Hurricane Gustav holds the record, developing on Sept. 11, 2002 at 8 a.m. Humberto missed the record by three hours.

With maximum winds around 85 miles per hour, Humberto is sitting in the open Atlantic, off the coast of Africa. It's expected to turn toward the northwest in the next couple of days and weaken. The National Hurricane Center forecasts it will be a tropical storm by late Friday.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle is churning northward at 8 miles per hour nearly 500 miles off the coast of Nantucket and isn't expected to be a threat to anyone.

The National Hurricane Center predicted it would be an active year for hurricanes. In spite of the late start, coastal communities are not yet in the clear. Hurricane season typically hits its peak from mid-August to late October.
