SOUTH TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Deputies from the Pima County Sheriff's Department say a burglar was caught before he had the chance to get away.

Early Saturday morning San Xavier District deputies responded to the 4700 block of East Silverpuffs Way for an unknown problem, according to a news release from Deputy Jesus Banuelos.

While on the way to the scene, deputies were advised that a resident was trying to detain a man he found breaking into his home. When deputies arrived, they learned the victim heard some noises outside his home and went out to investigate. Once outside he noticed an unknown male, later identified as 21-year-old Caesar Chavez, on his property.

A struggle ensued when the resident tried to detain Chavez until deputies arrived. During the struggle, the victim along with Chavez suffered minor scrapes and bruises. The victim was able to detain Chavez until deputies arrived approximately three minutes later.

During the course of the investigation, deputies found a window screen that had been tampered with. They also located three vehicles on the property that had been broken into. They found items that were in one of the vehicles in Chavez's pocket.

The sheriff's department burglary unit responded and took over the investigation. Chavez was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was then taken to the Pima County Adult Detention Center and booked on two counts of third degree burglary, attempted second degree burglary and attempted theft of means of transportation.
