TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona junior cornerback Jourdon Grandon was named Honorable Mention Defensive Back of the Week by the College Football performances Awards, it was announced on Monday. The Wildcats defeated UTSA, 38-13, Saturday night at Arizona Stadium.

Grandon spearheaded a strong defensive effort as the Wildcats held UTSA to its lowest offensive output of the season. Grandon registered a season-high six tackles, intercepted his third career pass and forced a fumble. On the season, he has nine solos stops with one assisted.

In the first quarter, Grandon intercepted an Eric Soza pass and returned it 16 yards, setting up UA's second touchdown of the game. The interception was Arizona's sixth in three games this season, which is tied for sixth-most nationally. The Roadrunners came into the game averaging 449 yards of offense and 28 points per game but mustered 70 fewer yards than their average and were held to their fewest points in 19 games dating to 2011.

After a bye week on Sept. 21, the Wildcats will return to action on Sept. 28 when they visit Washington. The Cats and the Huskies will kick at 4 p.m. PT and the game will air nationally on FOX.
