ANDERSON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
A mowing crew discovered a body on the side of Highway 79 near the Neches River Bridge in Anderson County on Tuesday.
According to Anderson County Justice of the Peace James Todd, the crew found the body just after lunch on Tuesday. The body is male, although the identity is unknown. Todd added that the body had been there for "awhile." He said the crews were able to spot the body and avoided hitting it with the mower.
The Anderson County Sheriff's Office and Texas Rangers are attempting to identify the body, which has been sent to Denton for an autopsy. No foul play is expected in the man's death.
Sheriff Greg Taylor says the body was so badly decomposed, officials will have to rely on DNA testing to identify it, which could take up to three weeks.
