TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Tempe police need help locating a motorist who hit a man riding his bicycle to work on Thursday.

The 55-year-old bicyclist suffered serious injuries.

The crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. as the bicyclist was in the area of Fifth Street and Siesta Lane.

The suspect fled the scene immediately after the collision without providing information or notifying police.

A witness in the area told officers he saw a white pickup truck stopped in the roadway near the location of the accident. It is not known whether the vehicle was involved in the collision.

Police were able to gather broken pieces of what appears to be a bug shield, possibly from the suspect vehicle.

People with any information about the crash are asked to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
