A man and his adult daughter are facing charges in connection with a deadly Cleveland shooting, and investigators see some parallels to the case of Trayvon Martin in Florida.

Cuyahoga County prosecutors have charged Kenneth Matthews with aggravated murder. Kenya Matthews is charged with obstructing justice. The charges relate to the killing of Bruce Jernigan at E. 109 and St. Clair.

Cleveland Homicide Detectives found the case started with a claim of self defense, but then they found witnesses saying Matthews took the law into his own hands to clean up his block.

Investigators say Matthews claims someone walked in front of his truck. He got out. He thought someone was reaching into his waistband for a gun maybe to rob him, so he fired.

Witnesses say Matthews backed up after his daughter shouted at some guys. They say Matthews told the guys to get off the corner. Then he shot Bruce Jernigan.

Jernigan's family wants justice.

"It's just a fact that he didn't deserve to be killed. It's a wrongful death," said Jernigan 's uncle Nathan Jones.

Investigators see parallels to the Trayvon Martin case in Florida. Did a man with a gun go way too far in a confrontation taking back his streets?

We got no answer at the Matthews home, but we saw cameras aimed at the doors. Records show Kenneth Matthews in jail and Kenya Matthews wanted.

The county prosecutors office also says, after the shooting Kenneth Matthews went home and called police.

He's pleading not guilty.
