Enroll America door-to-door campaign aims to inform

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

As the Oct. 1 deadline draws near for the Affordable Care Act, health advocates will be going door to door in Tucson to spread the word.

The national non-profit group ‘Enroll America' has started the door-to-door campaign to find and inform as many uninsured Americans as possible.

Volunteers are giving out pamphlets they call ‘commit cards.'  Residents fill out the cards and then volunteers follow up with information on local certified application counselors.  These counselors help choose what best suits each individual based on personal or family insurance needs

More than 1 million people in Arizona do not have health insurance; in Pima County 15 percent are uninsured and in Tucson 18.8 people are uninsured.

Tucson News Now spoke with Enroll America and they say about 120,000 in Pima County are eligible for coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

Volunteers will continue their door to door campaign until enrollment begins.  The insurance sites open on October 1, beginning a six month enrollment opportunity.
