TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police say one of their own cruisers caught fire in east Toledo around 5:30 a.m. Friday.

According to police, Sgt. E. Mohr was responding to a burglary call. While traveling on White towards Idaho, he smelled a strong odor of burning sulfur. When he slowed down to start looking for the source, he noticed smoke coming from the backseat. He was able to get out of the vehicle and says he observed a bright red glow of a flare as it burned through the trunk and onto the pavement. The trunk area then became fully engulfed and ammunition within it cooked off.

The cruiser is a total loss because the entire vehicle caught fire before the fire department arrived to extinguish the flames.

Mohr was not injured, but did inhale smoke and fumes.
