TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Authorities seized more than $1.5 million worth of marijuana abandoned in the desert west of Tucson.

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents, with the assistance of a CBP helicopter, responded to possible smuggling activity around 2 a.m. Friday. They quickly located nearly 2,000 pounds of marijuana in a 2000 Toyota Tundra truck, according to a news release.

Authorities said the truck was abandoned by smugglers and hidden by a camouflage tarp.

The drugs were turned over to the DEA and the truck was seized.
