Vanderbilt cruises past Blazers 52-24

NASHVILLE - Utilizing a high-powered offensive attack and a strong defensive effort, Vanderbilt defeated UAB 52-24 Saturday at Vanderbilt Stadium.

Austyn Carta-Samuels completed 23-of-29 passes for a career-high 334 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Matthews had eight catches for 115 yards and Jonathan Krause had four catches for 108 yards. On the ground, Jerron Seymour carried the ball 12 times for 107 yards.

Vanderbilt led 24-6 at the half and never looked back as the Commodores improved to 3-2 overall and dropped UAB to 1-3.

Matthews, who recorded his 14th 100-yard game, made history by tying Dan Stricker for first all-time with 21 career touchdowns. Matthews also moved into third all-time in career receiving yards, surpassing Earl Bennett.

Defensively, the Commodores had two interceptions, two sacks and kept UAB out of the end zone until the fourth quarter.
