BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A prominent member of LSU's offensive line says breakdowns in the defensive backfield are not the only critical mistakes that cost the Tigers a chance to stay unbeaten Saturday in Athens.

Offensive lineman Trai Turner says a stronger running game to go with Zach Mettenberger's career best passing effort would have kept the sacks the senior quarterback suffered to a minimum and led to even more points than the Tigers scored in the 44-41 shootout loss.

LSU was held to just 77 yards rushing, a number skewed by 40 yards lost on four sacks, but for the season the LSU running game now ranks just 11th in the SEC.

The Tigers have only finished lower than sixth one time in ten years since the 2003 national championship, finishing first in the league in 2004 and usually ranking somewhere between 2nd and 4th except for 2009 when they were also 11th.

LSU looks to bounce back Saturday when the Tigers travel to Starkville for an SEC showdown with the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Kickoff is at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN.
