Tucson Film & Music Festival returns this weekend

TUCSON (Tucson News Now) - This year's Tucson Film & Music Festival takes places this weekend.

The ninth annual festival will feature a line up of narrative and documentary features,
short films and live music acts.

The 2013 Opening Night Film is We Always Lie to Strangers directed by AJ Schnack and David Wilson, screening Friday, October 11 at 7 p.m. at The Loft Cinema (3233 E. Speedway Blvd).

The Centerpiece Film is Kids Like You & Me, directed by Bill Cody, a documentary about Atlanta, GA's indie rockers The Black Lips tour through the Middle East. The film screens Saturday, October 12 at 7 p.m. at Century 20 El Con (3601 E. Broadway).

The Closing Night Film is Don't Follow Me (I'm Lost) directed by William Miller, featuring iconoclastic folk rocker Bobby Bare, Jr. screening on Sunday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Century 20 El Con.

Tickets are $8 and $5 for Students, available day of show at venue box offices.

The 2013 music lineup kicks off on Thursday, October 10 with a live performance by Jazz Telephone and DJ set by 5,6,7 Wax at La Cocina (201 N. Court Ave.).

On Saturday, October 12th, local band Holy Rolling Empire will reunite for a rare live show at Plush (340 E. 6th Street). The concert will include Of The Painted Quire (from Phoenix) and opening the show locals Kid Puto.

Finally, the TFMF Closing Night Party will be held on Sunday, October 13 at Tap and Bottle (403 N. 6th Ave.) with live music from Dave & Sabine (NYC composer/filmmaking duo) along with local singer songwriters Joe Novelli & Marvin The Cloud Wall and Billy Sedlmayr with Gabriel Sullivan backing guitar.

The Tucson Film & Music Festival has screened over 200 films since its inception in 2005. The music festival has featured 150+ bands.
