Auburn beats W. Carolina 62-3 for homecoming

AUBURN, AL (WSFA) -

To a Jordan-Hare Stadium crowd of 84,171, the Auburn Tigers won their 2013 homecoming game over the Western Carolina Catamounts 62-3.

The victory began with a Tre Mason touchdown on the sixth play from scrimmage.  Auburn's freshman quarterback, Jeremy Johnson, then threw, on the run, an 8-yard touchdown pass to Jay Prosch to put the Tigers up 14-0.

Western Carolina's Richard Sigmon's 49-yard field goal with 3:51 in the first quarter made it Tigers 14, Catamounts 3.

Within another minute of play, Johnson hit Ricardo Louis for a 46-yard touchdown and Auburn led 21-3.

Just over a minute into the second period, Corey Grant, behind a Jay Prosch block, ran 51 yards for an Auburn touchdown. 28-7.

Half way through the second quarter Tre Mason ran 53 yards for another Auburn touchdown.  It was 35-3 with 7:46 left in the half.

Jeremy Johnson threw one more touchdown pass in the first half, this one 22 yards to Tony Stevens. It was Auburn 42, Western Carolina 3 with 1:38 left in the first half and that's how the half ended.

Quarterback Jeremy Johnson started the second half for Auburn and hit Bray for his fourth touchdown pass of the day.  49-3 Auburn.  At 8:26 left in the third, Jonathan Wallace went in at quarterback.

Two minutes later Cameron Artis-Payne ran 25 yards for another Auburn touchdown.  The third quarter ends at Auburn 56, Western Carolina 3.

Early in the fourth quarter Jonathan Ford, who was a defensive back earlier in the game, scored from the tailback position on a 38-yard run.  A bad snap on the extra point made it Auburn 62, Western Carolina 3, which was the final score of the game.
