National Teen Driver Safety happening this week

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

In honor of National Teen Driver Safety Week local high school students are taking up a challenge to stay safe on the road.

Flowing Wells High School is one of those participating in the Teen Driver Safety Week, one issue students are focusing on is seat belt use.

Students at Flowing Wells are hosting a seat belt challenge - they are calling it the ‘Battle of the Belt'. They launched the challenge last week and will continue with it after an assembly later today.

They recorded the percentage of belted drivers and passengers.  What they found was that many drivers and passengers were not buckling up.

A guest speaker, a young man whose life was changed after a car accident in which he was not wearing a seat belt; will be part of the assembly the students will attend this morning. Tune in to Tucson News Now later this morning for this young man's story.
