Police: Crime calls down in Sylvania Twp this year

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Sylvania Township Police Department says it's seeing significantly fewer service calls compared to last year.

Police Chief Rob Boehme says it has been a great year for the township. The department's overall crime statistics are down, including their calls for service.

The chief says the department has received 2,944 fewer calls this year compared to last year at this time. That includes 13 fewer robberies and 32 fewer burglaries.  Assaults, thefts and OVIs are all down, as well.

Boehme says it's been a good year, but he also give credit to his department for their hard work and their presence in the community.

"We have very active patrol out there," Boehme said. "We emphasize in the department that visibility is a great deterrent. We've always done that. I think that our road patrol officers do an excellent job of being very visible."

The chief also recognized the department's detective unit for following up on crimes and making arrests.
