First annual Arizona Run for the Fallen

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A relay team of 20 active duty service members, many from Davis-Monthan will run a 146 mile route from Tucson to Phoenix.  The run began this morning at 6:30 a.m.

Mayor Jonathan Rothschild kicked off the event at Freedom Park and Governor Jan Brewer will greet the runners when they arrive in Phoenix on Sunday.

The runners will arrive tonight in Florence, before continuing on Saturday; runners will stop at each mile along the route to read the name and give information about a fallen Arizona soldiers.

23 service members from Tucson, who died during their service will be honored on this run, which is the first 'Run for the Fallen' in Arizona.  However, this is not the first event happening in the U.S. similar runs have taken place in other states.
