Ultimate Air Shuttle announced its second destination out of CVG.
The public charter will soon fly to Chicago-Midway. CVG does fly to Chicago, but only to O'hare.
CVG says they're still working out the specifics on flight schedules and pricing. A few months ago, Ultimate Air announced flights to New York City.
CVG is not only adding flight destinations, but new airlines as well. In the past, many have described CVG's prices as too expensive to fly, but recent announcements including today's are making it hard for travelers to not consider this airport.
Just this year, Frontier announced flights to Denver and Trenton. Allegiant Air is on its way to Orlando and Fort Meyers. Now Ultimate Air Shuttle is flying to the Big Apple and the Windy City.
"We had to diversify. Frontier was the first low cost carrier that we've had in 15 years," says Melissa Wideman with CVG. "Allegiant is the first low cost carrier to Florida since, I think, 1998. Our market was hungry for some low cost carriers and we kind of took a step back, created a plan, and the plan is going into motion now."
Perl Sodhi is a local traveler and she says she realizes the cost to fly has been on the expensive side as of late, but she's still willing to fork up the money to fly.
"It's the closest, I guess it's just the convenience over money I guess," says Sodhi. "At times you just have to get a flight out and CVG is just the closest one."
But Sodhi adds these new, low cost options will definitely help some of her clients at work. "We have a lot of consultants who actually go for cheaper flights and they'll fly out of Cincinnati versus Dayton if it's cheaper."
Melissa Wideman with CVG says their current carriers are also seeing a spike in numbers. She says the amount of people flying out of CVG has increased for seven straight months.
"It's not just our new carriers that are here that have great and exciting news Our other standard bearers have also had recent success," says Wideman.
So what's next? There's been talk of Jet Blue coming to the Queen City and there's even a Facebook page calling for the move. But airport officials weren't about to fill us in on any progress quite yet.
"You know we're talking to everybody," says Wideman.
Wideman says it's unclear what the next destination or even airline is for CVG, but she fully expects to see more announcements soon, like we've had throughout the year.
CVG officials say they're still details to work out, but they plan to have Ultimate Air flights to Chicago beginning in January.
