The City of Hamilton has been selected as a finalist for the 2013 Social Media Leadership Awards (SMLA), recognized alongside Adobe, American Airlines, JPMorgan Chase, Dell and other recognizable brands.
"Being chosen as a finalist is a great honor for the City of Hamilton and our fellowship program," said City Manager Joshua Smith. "Social media allows us to communicate information, share events, address concerns, and build a direct connection with our citizens and businesses."
The Wharton School's Social Media Leadership Award highlights innovative social media strategies working to solve challenging issues. Organizers say hundreds of entries received from more than 15 countries were evaluated by a panel of global leaders in business, social media, and academia.
Finalists are selected based by scored entries based on innovation and success in achieving business objectives through the use of social media.
"By being more transparent, we can create greater social interaction, foster engagement, and increase citizen participation throughout the community. The fellows have done a fantastic job implementing a successful social media strategy and the recognition is well-deserved," said Smith.
Assistant to the City Manager Brandon Saurber added, "The fellows' new approach to social media outreach has changed the way we employ platforms such as Facebook and Twitter as a tool to engage our community. Adapting content, timing, and scheduling of social media posts has allowed us to reach various audiences to better inform the community and build engagement through our social media platforms."
