All ages invited to walk, raise funds for diabetes cure

TUCSON (Tucson News Now) - The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes comes to Tucson on Saturday.

The walk raises funds for type 1 diabetes research for prevention, improved treatment and curing type 1 diabetes and its complications.

This year's walk will celebrate the life and legacy of Major League Baseball hall of famer, Ron Santo.

The JDRF Desert Southwest Chapter has set a fundraising goal of more than $200,000.

This event is free but fundraising is encouraged.

Nearly 30,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year. It affects 15,000 children a year.

The walk is open to all ages. Strollers and dogs are welcome.

Registration starts Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and the 5k begins at 9 a.m. at Rillito Park, 4502 N. 1st Avenue.
