Pima Football gunning for best season since '04

Posted: Updated:

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College football team's overall and conference records changed this week from 3-5 to 4-4.

In a new playoff format debuting this year, the Aztecs, who finished fifth in the conference, will host Consolation playoffs games at Kino Stadium on Nov. 2 and Nov. 9. Both start times will be at 1:30 p.m.

Pima will host the winner of the Phoenix/Glendale, which will take place in Glendale on Saturday.

The top-four teams in the Western States League will face each other in a similar two-week playoff.

A two-week review into Arizona Western's football program conducted by the NJCAA concluded and forced them to forfeit five of its seven wins, which included its game against the Aztecs on Aug. 24.

The Matadors would have been in the winner's bracket playoff were it not for the forfeits so although PCC is the top seed, Arizona Western is probably the best team in the Consolation tournament and the team the Aztecs will likely host on Nov. 9.

The Aztecs have not had more than four wins since Jeff Scurran's squad won nine games back in 2004.
