TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Just how much foot traffic and bicycle use criss-crosses our county, city, and towns will be clearer in a few weeks.

The 2013 bicycle and pedestrian count just wrapped up yesterday.  For the past two weeks, about 60 volunteers counted the number of walkers and bike riders at specific locations during the high-traffic times on weekdays and weekends.  These counts have been done since 2008.  The tally should be ready by the end of the month.

Pima Association of Governments coordinates these counts to better understand traffic across the county and where streets and intersections need to be changed or improved.  Cyclist counts include age, sex, helmet use and whether the rider obeys traffic laws.
