TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A local orthodontist is sponsoring their first Halloween candy buy back.
October is National Orthodontic Health Month, and Dr. JAW Orthodontics is helping by 'buying back' Halloween candy. For every pound of candy donated by people they will receive a $1.
The candy collected by Dr. JAW will then make its way to a worthy cause, Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is a program that makes up care packages to send to deployed troops.
"We are offering the Candy Buy Back Program as a way to show our brave service men and women how much we appreciate them," stated Dr. James Weaver in a recent news release about the buy back. "Kids still have all the fun of trick-or-treating, but now they have the opportunity to donate the candy that we want them to steer clear of, those that can damage their braces or compromise an orthodontic treatment. Plus this is one of our ways of giving back."
Those interested in participating in the candy buy back – both Dr. JAW locations in Tucson will be accepting candy:
- 5747 E. 5th Street, Tucson 85711
- 10550 N. La Canada Drive, Tucson 85737
Candy collections will run from November 1 to 8. Those who bring in their candy will receive a toothbrush and 'goodie bag', along with a certificate for a free round of miniature golf at Golf n' Stuff, with the purchase of one round.
Kids who donate are also encouraged to draw a picture or write a letter to service members to be included in the care packages. Dr. JAW is also including toothbrushes and dental floss with the candy care packages.
