NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

It won't be on the ballot for another year, but you're about to hear plenty about Amendment One. It's the proposal to make abortion part of the Tennessee constitution, and it's already igniting controversy.

Stars of the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting made an appearance Monday at Nashville's Cornerstone Church to show their support for the proposed pro-life amendment.

"It's just one paragraph. It gives the power to state lawmakers to put strict regulations on abortions," said reality star Jim Bob Duggar.

Duggar, along with his wife, Michelle, are featured in the TLC show about the challenges they face raising 19 children, and their pro-life message has been an important component of the show.

Amendment One is opposed by Planned Parenthood of Middle Tennessee, whose CEO, Jeff Teague, told Channel 4 News the amendment infringes on a woman's reproductive rights.

"I think that people are paying a lot more attention to the issue of abortion, to women's rights and their ability to control their own bodies," said Teague.

Michelle Duggar said the child in the womb doesn't have a choice.

"How would you want to be treated if that were you in the womb, and you were that baby?" she asked.

Teague said abortion is a tough decision but it should be up to a woman to make that choice.

"One of the things we found is no matter how troubled they may be about it, they want it to be safe and legal for women to have that option," said Teague.

The program at Cornerstone was sponsored by Heartbeat Haven in Lafayette, which works with women facing crisis or unexpected pregnancies.
